Former pro stars including New York Yankees outfielder Roy White raise money at the sixth annual BEST Celebrity Golf Tournament and banquet to help at-risk youth make academic dreams happen.

The more than 30 former professional athletes who participated in the fifth annual BEST Scholarship golf tournament Monday at Green Pond Country Club may no longer be in the prime of their careers but they’ve still got good timing. Everyone was off the golf course and in the banquet room when heavy rain began falling.

BEST celebrated the graduation of its first class this weekend and welcomed a new class of high school graduates with a scholarship reception Sunday night at the Sands Hotel and golf outing at Green Pond Country Club. As part of the program, BEST called upon a group of celebrities ranging from Baseball Hall of Farmer Andre Dawson to Miss New Jersey.

Enough former ballplayers to fill a major league roster, including Hall of Famer Jim Rice, showed their support for the work of BEST Inc., by attending the charitable organization’s fourth annual scholarship reception at the Sands Hotel as celebrity guests on Sunday, June 24th 2012.

Baseball Hall of Famer Jim Rice got a huge ovation. So did all of the popular ex-Phillies such as Tommy Greene, Jim Eisenreich, Ozzie Virgil Jr. and Allentown resident Art Mahaffey. Local favorites Jimmy Schaffer, Jack Fisher and Ned Bolcar took their bows as well.

Former baseball players from the Mets, Phillies, and Yankees and football players from the Giants supported the work of BEST, Inc. by attending the charitable organization’s third annual scholarship reception at the Sands Hotel as celebrity guests on Sunday July 24th, 2011.

A long list of former Yankees, Phillies, Mets, football Giants and other sports personalities will be at the Sands Casino including familiar names like Tommy John, Darren Daulton, Bud Harrelson and Jim Eisenreich. They will sign autographs, mingle with guests and even tell some stories.

BEST, Inc. was founded three years ago and has been making a strong impact helping students across the Lehigh Valley area. What started out as two education advocates brainstorming in the wee hours of the morning 9 years ago has led to financially helping more than 40 college students from Allentown to Phillipsburg.
- Star Ledger 2009 – Cubs great to lead team of baseball stars in golf benefit for college scholars
Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Fergie Jenkins leads a roster of more than two dozen retired major leaguers in a golf tournament August 24th, 2009 to provide college scholarship money to Phillipsburg High School students who dream of attending college. In addition to Jenkins, the roster includes four former All-Star players – pitchers Steve Rogers of the Montreal Expos and Tyler Green of the Philadelphia Phillies, outfielder Chuck Hinton of the Washington Senators and infielder Don Wert of the Detroit Tigers.
